Case Studies

New College Classroom Teaching Resource: Case Studies for building understanding and provoking dialogue about team collaboration among parents, early childhood teachers and early intervention specialists as they implement Inclusive early intervention practices in Natural Environments.

Each case study is designed to be brief enough to use easily in a typical college course class session. Describing a variety of circumstances in home, daycare, classroom and community settings, the cases use narration, dialogue, discussion questions and reflection points to give students the opportunity to consider the range of possible approaches and viewpoints on the subject of trans-disciplinary collaboration and inclusion in natural environments. Some cases focus on the 0 to 3 age range, while others include 3 and 4 yr. old populations.

The cases were developed through a year long process of interviewing families, early intervention staff/specialists and daycare/preschool providers on the subject of inclusion in natural environments. The study was part of a grant awarded by the Early On Center for Higher Education to Julie Ricks Doneen, early childhood faculty at Oakland University in Rochester Hills, MI.
